Date dress update

I knew I wouldn't make this dress overnight, but I didn't anticipate it taking this long either. A combo of running in to some bumps on the road, working on a side project plus my full time job, has really made me put this on the back burner. Hopefully, I will be able to finish it this week, fingers crossed!

And i'm back in the game...

This boxy shirt pattern has been on the back burner for almost 3 months now. I was a bit distracted this summer, then it was back to school time and I've just been super exhausted. And finally, all in one night, i got it done...and i must say it is one of my favs!

Workshop SF!

Part of the reason I was really into the idea of spending the summer in San Francisco was due to their DIY community. There seems to be a lot of people that really take a big bite and really sink into the whole DIY movement, and there are quite a few of supporters as well.

Specifically, there is a place that focuses on giving you that support and motivation to take matters into your own hands. Workshop, a DIY school so to speak, offers a wide variety of classes from learning to brew your own ginger beer, starting an indie business, to sewing, and building your own terrarium.

I've had the pleasure of taking 2 classes with them and also interning with them this month. The first class I took was called "Sewing Sorcery" the class focused on zippers and button holes. Two things that i still need to perfect. We made a little zipper pouch and a business card pouch that buttons closed. The other class i took was "Screen printing for newbies." Both classes were so much fun, relaxed and laid back, probably the best learning environment ever....we were even allowed to have adult beverages....ah i heart SF.

sheck it out, i made this with me own hands, true story:

Sew cool!- T-shirt mini dress

I have been working steady on my sewing skills for the past few months. I have completed 2 dresses and a skirt. I wish I had more time to work on perfecting my skills, but alas I must work to pay the bills, ya know!

I used the T-shirt mini dress pattern from dixiediy.com. She has some really great and easy patterns, and she is also from Austin, TX!

Like I said, I am saving money to purchase a nice camera so bare with me. The sweet pup in the picture is my sister's dog named Juicebox, named by my little niece :)

Sew Sunday...

My sister and I have decided to complete a project every Sunday.

For our first project we made simple totes. To our surprise, we actually started and finished them in a few hours for the first time ever!!! Now why didn't we think of this before she was due to have her baby boo...well better late than never.

Trial and Error...

Woo hoo! I actually finished a project in a week. Though it is far from perfect I am super happy with it! And aside from having to pull really hard over my chest area to put it on...it is wearable. I was trying to make a elastic tube top dress, but instead of cutting one long piece of fabric and inserting the elastic I cut a top and bottom ! AHHH! But now I know and the next time I make this dress it can only get better....I HOPE!

New Years Resolutions!!!

It's a new year and time for a fresh start. I know I am a little late on this but I did not have a computer for 2 weeks...ugh! This year I hope to be more productive and independent. With that said these are my New Year's Resolutions:

  1. Work on one sewing project a week.- I've noticed I am more of a dreamer than a do-er, and I am ready to make that switch over to do-er!
  2. Stay active-Most nights you could find me sitting on my couch being a lazy ass...not anymore
  3. Update blog twice a week- this is the only one that scares me a bit. I'm not tech savvy at all. I am the person who leaves pictures on her camera for months. So this goal will definitely give me that extra push (hopefully...)
Those are my top 3 resolutions! Happy New Year!

Year of the Tiger! I have been searching for the perfect tiger rug I think this is the year!
